Referral guidelines

CATEGORY DEFINITIONS
These are recommended guidelines for health professionals referring patients for assessments / treatment in a HHS.

Immediate and Urgent cases must be discussed with the Specialist or Registrar in order to get appropriate prioritisation and then a referral letter sent with the patient, faxed or e-mailed.  The times to assessment may vary depending on size and staffing of the hospital department.

Scabies

 

Treatment options included gammabenzene hexachloride or permethrin or benzylbenzoate or malathion.

Treat whole family group.

Treatment failure two months.

Category 3  

  

 

 

  Head/Pubic Lice

Permethrin preparations.

Treat all contacts. Consider public health issues.

Options for repeated infections include wet combing/brushing and robicomb to prevent re-infection.

Refer to Public Health Nurse.
